چکیده

The aim of this tutorial survey is to revisit the basic theory of relaxation processes governed by linear differential equations of fractional order. The fractional derivatives are intended both in the Rieamann-Liouville sense and in the Caputo sense. After giving a necessary outline of the classical theory of linear viscoelasticity, we contrast these two types of fractional derivatives in their ability to take into account initial conditions in the constitutive equations of fractional order. We also provide historical notes on the origins of the Caputo derivative and on the use of fractional calculus in viscoelasticity. 2000 Mathematics Subject Classification: 26A33, 33E12, 33C60, 44A10, 45K05, 74D05,

The M-Wright Function in Time-Fractional Diffusion Processes: A Tutorial Survey

In the present review we survey the properties of a transcendental function of the Wright type, nowadays known as M-Wright function, entering as a probability density in a relevant class of self-similar stochastic processes that we generally refer to as time-fractional diffusion processes. Indeed, the master equations governing these processes generalize the standard diffusion equation by means...

Linear Relaxation Processes Governed by Fractional Symmetric Kinetic Equations

We get fractional symmetric Fokker Planck and Einstein Smoluchowski kinetic equations, which describe evolution of the systems influenced by stochastic forces distributed with stable probability laws. These equations generalize known kinetic equations of the Brownian motion theory and contain symmetric fractional derivatives over velocity and space, respectively. With the help of these equation...

Anomalous relaxation in dielectrics. Equations with fractional derivatives

It has been shown that anomalous relaxation in dielectrics can be described in terms of equations with fractional derivatives. The solutions of the resulting equation with fractional derivatives are expressed by the Mittag –Leffler function and the Fox function. The conditions of a change from the Debye relaxation to “slow” (anomalous) relaxation with a power time dependence have been examined ...

The Stability of Non-standard Finite Difference Scheme for Solution of Partial Differential Equations of Fractional Order

Fractional derivatives and integrals are new concepts of derivatives and integrals of arbitrary order. Partial differential equations whose derivatives can be of fractional order are called fractional partial differential equations (FPDEs). Recently, these equations have received special attention due to their high practical applications. In this paper, we survey a rather general case of FPDE t...

A study of a Stefan problem governed with space–time fractional derivatives

This paper presents a fractional mathematical model of a one-dimensional phase-change problem (Stefan problem) with a variable latent-heat (a power function of position). This model includes space–time fractional derivatives in the Caputo sense and time-dependent surface-heat flux. An approximate solution of this model is obtained by using the optimal homotopy asymptotic method to find the solu...
